What is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning?

Anchor Counseling is pleased to announce that we are now offering Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy will be offered to our clients ages 12 and over, who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, mood issues and trauma history. Equine Assisted Learning will be offered for those 10 and over, who may not have mental health issues, but struggle with anger, stress, difficulty expressing emotions, or feeling stuck. Equine therapies are primarily based on the ground with the horse, rather than riding. Both programs will be offered at Applewood Ranch, at 45w129 Welter Road in Maple Park, IL. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy may be covered by your insurance.

Shiloh's
Story

Shiloh is a 13 year old, Palomino, Quarter Horse gelding. He was purchased by Anchor Counseling's owner, Angel, in 2022. Angel recently resumed riding again after 20 years off. Shiloh is said to have lived his life as a ranch horse in Oklahoma prior to being sold at an auction. He loves treats, having his ears scratched, and playing follow the leader. He can be a little nervous at times, but enjoys spending time with his people and horse friends

Faith's

Story

Faith is a 12 year old grade Quarter Horse Mare. She is a liver chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail and a blaze on her face as well as two white socks. She came to Sweet Iron Horsemanship in July of 2021 after being rehomed from a "kill pen rescue". She was very skittish, nervous, skinny and it was obvious that she had been abused in the past. Through time, confidence building and natural horsemanship; her confidence and personality has come back. She has a very gentle soul and upbeat energy that she shares with people around her. She loves muskmelon, carrots, sugar cubes and belly scratches. She is not a fan of apples, celery or her ears being touched.
