World Mental Health Day

Oct 10
2 min read

October makes everyone think of Halloween with ghosts, witches, scary movies, haunted houses and things that go bump in the night. October has another very important celebration; World Mental Health Day. We are using this day as a reminder that taking care of your mental health doesn’t have to be scary.

October 10th, World Mental Health Day is a perfect reminder that caring for our minds should feel just as normal as caring for our bodies. We make appointments when something hurts. We rest when we’re exhausted. We ask for help when a task feels too big to handle alone. Our mental health deserves that same attention.

Life can feel heavy even when everything looks fine from the outside. You might be juggling work and family, navigating a change, grieving a loss, or feeling anxious without knowing exactly why. Therapy gives you a dedicated space to talk about what’s happening and explore what you need.

Different approaches work for different people, and a therapist can help you choose goals that fit your situation. At Anchor Counseling, we offer therapy in many different ways:

In-office-Join us at either our St. Charles or Elburn location to meet with one of our team members.

Virtual-Take your session from the comfort of your own home.

Equine-Join your therapist and one of our trained horses during your session.

Group-We offer specialty group sessions each month. Join our Women’s group, teen group, Sound Healing and Full Moon Walks as a way of healing.

Therapy can help with concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. It can also be a place to better understand your emotions and notice patterns in how you respond to stress. Sometimes the first benefit is simply having time that is yours. In a therapy session, you can say the things you’ve been holding in, ask questions, and sort through your thoughts with a trained professional.

They may also help you recognize patterns, practice coping skills, or find new ways to respond when stress shows up. Progress can be quiet: taking a pause before you feel overwhelmed, asking for what you need, or getting through a difficult day with more kindness toward yourself.

If you’ve been thinking about therapy, you’re allowed to start with a simple question: What would I like help with right now? You don’t need a polished answer before reaching out. A therapist can help you figure that out together. If you’re interested in joining us for in-person, virtual, equine or group sessions, reach out to us via phone/text/email or even fill out a form on our website here. We would love to help you make taking care of your mental health less scary.
